These pages contain mainly information related to clinical epidemiology. Clinical epidemiology is a field of applied medical research that uses research methods from epidemiology for clinical and patient-relevant topics. Some call it, jokingly, clinical occurrology as it involves the study of occurrences of diseases in relation to health-related determinants. During my PhD fellowships I have been primarily involved in methodological projects related to meta-analysis. More recently, I am more and more involved in primary clinical research, focusing on diagnostic and prognostic modeling studies.
Current employment
My primary affiliation is with the Kitasato Clinical Research Center (KCRC) of the School of Medicine of Kitasato University, Sagamihara / Tokyo, Japan. I work as a junior associate professor in Clinical Epidemiology and as such I am responsible for the development of the educational program and for the methodological supervision of many clinical research projects and systematic reviews. In addition to this job, I am a visiting research fellow in Clinical Epidemiology at the Julius Center for Health Sciences and Primary Care of the University Medical Center in Utrecht, the Netherlands.
